The World Pool Championship In Association With Betfair.com!

With the 2003 World Pool Championship taking place from 12 - 20 July at the Cardiff International Arena, promoters Matchroom Sport can announce full details of this year’s qualifying events.

Players from all over the world will have the opportunity to progress through to the televised main event and have a chance of following in the footsteps of last year's champion Earl 'The Pearl' Strickland.

There will be a total of eleven spots in the main event available and this year the qualifiers move from a club environment into a more prestigious setting in one of the main function suites at the CIA.

Starting on Saturday 5th July and concluding on Thursday 10th, there will be eleven separate events including the infamous One Rack Shoot Out which determines the final spot.

In addition performances at the qualifiers will form the basis of the waiting list of competitors should any of the nominated players fail scratch from the main tournament or fail to show up.

Last year over 170 players from 29 countries tried their luck in the qualifiers and as well as big names like Filipinos Ramil Gallego and Rodolfo Luat winning through, total unknowns such as John Wims (Ireland) and England’s Richard Jones battled their way through to centre stage.

Competitors may play in one event per day, making five tournaments in total for an entry fee of £350 (approx $550), which includes free entry to the One Rack Shoot Out.

Individual events will cost £80 (approx $125) to enter but places may be restricted in favour of players taking the five tournament option.

For full details and entry forms contact Tournament Director Doug Gordon +44 (0)7939 235716 or email: pro9wc2k3@yahoo.com. Alternatively, click here.

The most successful of last year’s qualifiers was Nickoy Lining who went out 11-10 at the last 16 stage, beaten by fellow countryman Francisco Bustamante. Lining took home $4,000 for his efforts.
